Good-bye!

Hello everyone!

Well I have decided to retire this blog and create a new one that is dedicated to both my girls. Since this blog is "Searching for Janie" and my other was "Hurry home Lexie" I feel that I need a new one since my girls are finally home and together (at last)!!!

The new blog has a special title.....of course my last name is incorporated and these girls are the sunshine of my life. So the new blog is:

I am still working on the layout but will hopefully have a new post soon. Good-bye to this blog. It has been nice documenting all the steps of this journey.

I have so many thoughts running thru my head...so much to tell everyone, but so tired I can hardly think. The girls are great....just having a hard time adjusting to Georgia time. We have had several middle of the night parties at my house-hmmmmm. Anyone want to join us? Probably not, I kind of wish I didn't get that invitation either.

But, I'm sure it will get better each day. In the meantime, here are some random pictures in no particular order.

On the last day in Taiwan, both the girls were napping in thier separate cribs-in separate rooms. This is how I found them--identical sleeping sisters!

I called Janie a "peeping tom" while in Taipei. The hotel we stayed in had vents in the bathroom door. Whenever mom or I would go to the restroom or shower, Janie would lay on the floor and peek at us. Funny girl!

On our last full day in Taipei we went to a little day market going on a few blocks from our hotel. Having been to Taiwan twice now, I am a little disappointed I never made it to one of the big night markets. I hear they are wonderful. However, I also hear they are BEYOND CROWDED. Wall-to-wall people all wondering thru tons of food vendors and other craziness. I just never could get the strength (or courage) to take Janie and for sure not Janie and Lexie....so we attended this smaller version....it was fun and interesting!!

Some sort of dancing entertainment-not quite sure what we were watching-it looked like belly dancing. And yes, I'm pretty sure that was a guy in the middle--hmmmm. We had no idea what was going on, but Janie loved the music and was dancing and clapping too!

They had some children's games/activities. Janie had fun! Lexie tried but had more fun just watching all the other kids!

Home Sweet Home

We are home, we are tired, we are a little sick, but we are a family! As I type this my 2 angels are sleeping peacefully (until one of them wakes up). We are all adjusting to the time zone and sleep issues....but we will get in a routine soon.

Thanks for all the prayers during our journey. We appreciate each and every one of them as they were all felt!

So I know I didn't post anything yesterday. I was sooooooo tired. When the girls went to sleep I did too. Mom stayed up and did some laundry at the hotel while I crashed--and crashed hard! She woke me up and made me eat some dinner (room service she had delivered for me). I really didn't want to but was sooo glad she made me. I felt so much better today after having food and sleep.

Lexie is doing great during the day! Still some night time grieving--but all completely normal and expected. Janie is doing better. Her sleeping is much better now!! YAY! But she is getting a little more aggivated at Lexie sometimes. She loves her and likes to play with her (some) but Lexie pulls up on everything (chairs, sofas, crib, etc) and she pulls up on Janie. Janie isn't too fond of having her arms and legs used as props for her little sister....and a few times Lexie has grabbed Janie's hair--that is really something Janie does not like. But she is so sweet about it, she just whines and says "help" to us....such a great big sister!

We had AIT appointment this morning and was able to pick up visa this afternoon! YAY! Today we are going to walk around and check out some more sights and maybe go on to the Taipei 101 building. We went last year with Janie and want to go again this year with Lexie.

Janie is adjusting to being a sister by taking her "paci" obsession to a whole new level. Check it out! A total of 4 green pacifiers: 1 attached to her shirt, 1 in the mouth, and 1 in each hand. Pretty soon she will start juggling them or stuffing them into pockets! Silly girl!!

Last Day in Taitung

Today was our last full day in Taitung. We head back to Taipei tomorrow morning. Today our 2 main things on schedule were to:

1. Meet with the girls' birth mom again

2.Visit the hospital and nurses/social worker/doctors that cared for both Janie and Lexie

It was a great day. I think Janie has finally realized that Lexie is part of our family and not just a "visitor". We have still seen several jealousy moments but we have also begun to see her get really protective of Lexie....and still lots of sweet moments. Here are some from today:

1. For fun this morning we put Janie in Lexie's crib with her. They were playing and at some point Lexie got fussy so Janie gave her a pacifier.

2. I was in the bathroom giving Lexie a bath and she didn't like her hair being rinsed and was crying. Mom said when Janie heard her cry she took off running to the bathroom door to check on her.

3. This afternoon Janie woke up from a nap and Lexie was still napping she went over to her crib and said "baby" and looked at me and smiled.

4. Today when we visited the hospital one of the nurses was holding Lexie and Janie got a little upset and was reaching out for her. We had to tell her that she wasn't taking Lexie. She is ours.

5. Our hotel has a play area and I took Janie alone today to have some private time with mommy...several times she asked "baby?"

So sweet!!!!!!!!!! Melts my heart!!!!!!!

The meeting with the birth mom went extrememly well today. It was such a peaceful meeting-so much different than meeting with her last year for Janie's adoption. But that is all I will say on that. It is Janie and Lexie's story to tell...not mine. But it did go really well today. Lots of questions were asked and lots of answers given. I am so blessed to have met her, have pictures for my girls, and have answers to some future questions.

Tomorrow we head back to Taipei. Wish us luck as we attempt our first flight with 2 babies!!!

By the way, Janie asked me to tell you that you will see lots of pictures with her sucking on her green pacifier. She is going crazy for it...at home I only allowed it in the crib. But brought it to Taiwan since I knew she needed something comforting. Well, let's just say she is EXTREMELY attached to it right now. I'm letting her have it, her world is turned upside down right now (new country, new sounds, new sights, new smells, new hours, and new family member). So, Janie asked me to tell you that she will work on giving it up when we get home.

Lexie asked me to tell you that she doesn't require a pacifier-her thumb works just fine!!

Learning all about each other...

So today was a little more interesting. I think Janie has realized that Lexie is here to stay and not just "visiting". A little more jealousy is starting to show :):)

But, to be honest it comes in stages and is really only bad when she is tired and wants to have mommy cuddle her. One moment she is holding hands with Lexie, giving Lexie a toy, or asking about Lexie...then the next she is taking things away from her while making an angry face. Like I said, when she is tired she really gets upset with Lexie.

Lexie is a VERY busy baby!!! Even more so than Janie. She grabs at everything and touches everything--she is extremely curious and smart. Janie doesn't mind until she is tired, then she gets mad when Lexie is grabbing at her or her things...we have seen a few tantrums. But we have also seen moments of sweetness with kissing, hugging, and when Janie's favorite song came on her DVD she went to dance and took Lexie by the hand to dance with her (sigh.....)

Janie is also a lot fussier than normal right now. We went to lunch with some Hannah's Hope staff and it was a nightmare. Not the lunch and not the staff--but Janie. Usually she will eat and then play for a while before she begins her "yucky restaurant behavior" but not today...nope, she was in her "yucky restaurant behavior" from the moment we walked in. I really do think it is all for attention. She knows if she acts this way, I have to react. But, wait until we get home and she doesn't get the attention she wants from it...I'm guessing it will stop then. Again, it isn't all the time--just a few moments each day.

I'm still glad we brought her...I cannot imagine being here without her. She has helped Lexie's transition. Lexie loves to watch her big sister and wants to do everything Janie is doing....so cute.

Big day tomorrow: We meet birth mom and go to the hospital to visit the nurses who cared for both Janie and Lexie!

I'm off to go watch my girls sleep a little more before I go to sleep. I love looking at them sleeping...

Together At Last!!

Hi Everyone,

It is 4:30am in Taiwan and my girls are sleeping-yep, my girls!! Janie and Lexie are together. They both fell asleep around 8:00 last night so I went to sleep too..now I am up!! Lexie is amazing. She is beyond adorable...so tiny and so sweet. Janie is a great big sister. She is so interested in Lexie and Lexie is very interested in Janie.

I have sooooo much to tell everyone, but I need more time. I just wanted to at least get a few pictures up.

I will say that Hannah's Hope (the home where Lexie was) is AMAZING. The nannies (special mommies) love the babies so much. They were sooooo excited to see Janie and so happy for the sisters to be together. They were sad to see Lexie go--lots of tears. To those of you that have traveled already-you know what I mean. To those of you waiting to travel, please know that your babies are being soooooo well taken care of and soooooo loved!! I knew it with Janie and I learned it all over again with Lexie. I had a short time to play with your darlings and I did get a few pictures for you...and if you sent things, they were given to the babies yesterday!! I will email each of you privately with more details about your babies (it might be tomorrow though)..we have a busy day ahead of us and my girls are keeping me BUSY!!

Janie: She is still having some sleep issues. It isn't jet lag-she just isn't sleeping much. But when she does finally crash, she crashes hard. But when she is awake, she is soooo happy and extremly wild and crazy!!! She loves Lexie-giving her toys, pacifer, etc and not too jealous. A little but not too much (yet). It is funny though, she wants to do whatever Lexie is doing. When I made Lexie a bottle, Janie wanted one too. When I changed Lexie's diaper, Janie got a diaper and laid down too....so cute!!!!

Lexie: She is an active thing. Loves to crawl around and grab everything in reach. Wants everything that Janie is holding. She is going to give Janie a run.....She is grieving some (which breaks your heart, but is a good thing). She is a much better sleeper than Janie. Janie has been up twice already tonight and cried loudly--Lexie just sleeps right through it.

We are beyond thrilled and have so much more to share...just wanted to give you a quick update. I keep going from crib to crib looking in at my 2 sleeping angels! God has blessed me and my heart is soooooo full! I cannot even describe how amazing this is.

Taipei sights and the zoo!

First off--let me say it is taking FOREVER to download pictures to this blog---it was taking a while recently back home in America-but taking really long here too....so pictures may only be a few each day-sorry guys!

We just got back from the zoo...Janie is napping (yay) and mom ran down to Outback Steakhouse to get us some lunch-so I had a minute to give you an update.

First, let me say that it is "chilly" here but I am still sweating. This morning I had on a long sleeve shirt but this afternoon changed to short sleeves-all the Taiwanese are wearing jackets and bundled up--too funny!

Last night, we were way to tired to do anything but this morning after sleeping in some (Janie slept about 6-7 hours) we went down for breakfast and to walk around this area of town. I'm not sure why Janie is having such a hard time sleeping--I guess this is her body's way of handling the change of routine--but she is doing great-such a happy traveler!

When we traveled for Janie we stayed at the Westin in Taipei. It was WONDERFUL. This time we really wanted a suite so that we could have a separate living area for one girl if the other baby is sleeping!! So, we are at the Agora Garden. We would have liked to get a suite at the Westin or the Grand Hyatt-but we would have to win the lottery first!!

The Agora Garden is good. Notice I didn't say great-but I also didn't say bad--it is good. The room is good as far as size. We have a separate bedroom with a big bed, dresser, and a huge closet. A big/nice bathroom. And a living area with a separate work area and a kitchenette- although no cooking supplies (plates, pans, etc). It is definetly not the Westin but it is OK. It has some great pros, but some cons as well. It does have a nice view of the Taipei 101 building and the garden area is very pretty...our room overlooks it....I will post about it later in case any readers are heading to Taiwan and needing hotel advice....

It is a good thing the gentleman next to us was so understanding. He said he was a father to a 3 year old son-he was great....very friendly, thank goodness!

The Taipei 101 Building

There were 2 things we hoped to do last year but never did...go to the Taipei zoo and go to a night market.

We went to the zoo today and are going to night market tonight. The zoo was GREAT!! It was only $2 (American price) admission and we didn't even see half of it--it's huge! Sooooo many people there-it was beyond crowded but so much fun. Janie's favorites were the giraffes (or "raffe" as she calls them), the monkeys, and of course the elephant. She got an elephant puppet suvenior!

There was also a new exhibit at the zoo today. It was called an American woman with blond hair carrying a cute Asian baby. Yep, that was me! I remember getting looks last year with Janie--this year is no different and I got sooooo many stares today. One lady stood right in front of me (only about 1 foot away) and just looked at me. I just smiled and finally moved away--tooo funny!

I love this picture above. Janie saw the shuttle train and kept saying "Choo Choo" so we rode it from the back of the zoo to the front exit. She waved to people and other trains going by. Then when it stopped she said "Yay" and clapped her hands....such a funny funny girl!

We are going to attempt the night market tonight. I've heard it is CRAZY CROWDED on weekends but it will be easier with just Janie instead of taking 2!!

Tomorrow we head to Taitung to meet Lexie and have her join our family! Can't wait!

We are in Taipei! YAY! Flights went well, both were actually early. Janie did great (especially for a little girl who didn't sleep much at all). We got her up Friday morning at 5:00am and boarded the first flight at 11:00. This was the LONG 14 hour flight. She fell asleep before take off and slept for 1 hour 15 minutes (getting up at 12:15 Georgia time). Then she stayed awake and played, played, played until 8:00pm (Georgia time) and finally gave it up and fell asleep for 3 hours. Then she was awake for the rest of the flight.

Then she ran all around the Tokyo airport during the lay-over but got really grumpy and was sooooo tired. The flight from Tokyo to Taipei is 3 1/2 hours and she slept the entire time. Now she is RUNNING around the hotel room and beyond excited. Hopefully she can sleep tonight and get on Taiwan time. It is currenty either 11:00pm or mid-night Taiwan time (we are a little confused with day-light savings time). Taiwan is either 12 or 13 hours ahead of Georgia. So Janie has had about 7 hours of sleep in the past 36 hours--yikes. She is such a little trooper. She is so happy and excited--she just goes with the flow.

One thing that did happen to the poor thing--she did get a few nose bleeds on the 14 hour flight and 1 on the shorter flight. I guess that was a long time to be up so high!! Poor thing! But she is doing just fine now....

Also there was a baby on the first flight that cried several time and Janie would look over and say "Baby" or "Shhh" and seem so concerened....she is going to be the BEST big sister!

Here we go again!!

Not much to report yet....just waiting at the Atlanta airport. Flight leaves at 11:00am to head to Tokyo then on to Taiwan....Janie is busy, busy, busy already--fun times ahead!!

I started a blog for Lexie, but will keep all Taiwan activity here on this one since most of you find it easier...then when I am home, I will combine both blogs into one for the girls!!!

5 days and my thoughts....

My mom took Janie with her to the grocery store this morning and I am sitting here thinking.....(not always a good thing-ha ha).

In 5 days my life will be forever changed (again). In 5 days I will get on a plane and follow God's lead to travel around the world. In 5 days I will try to explain to Janie why she is sitting on this big thing in the sky for so many hours.....

Then just a few days after that I will be handed my daughter! Janie will meet her sister! MiMi will snuggle her grandchild. I honestly have 2 ways I look at this journey:

1. The funny side of this journey:

I am about to be outnumbered! Yep, Janie is running (not walking anymore) and Lexie is crawling--I think they will keep me on my toes!
I will finally go on that diet and lose the weight I need to-chasing these 2 girls will be a workout!
I think they will "plot" against me and plan to make my life very interesting.
Getting all 3 of us ready in the mornings--well, let's just say I can already see the chaos ahead
And much, much, more that I just shake my head thinking about....

2. The serious side of the journey:

God is smiling on us. I have tears in my eyes as I think about this. And I am left to wonder, what have I done to deserve this? You know, when things aren't going right, the non-faithful always question God with "What have I done to deserve this?" They question why God is "punishing" them.....Not me, today I am asking the Lord "What have I done to deserve this amazing blessing?" I am thanking HIM for this journey....wow! It pretty much leaves me speechless--which if you know me, you know is hard to do!

When He brought Janie into my life I could not imagine how much He loved me. Janie is His child and He has chosen me to be her mommy--now, He has done the same with Lexie. I feel so honored to be the "chosen one" for these girls. I remember aching for Janie and wondering when God would show me my child. Now I know, He had me wait so that Janie and Lexie would be together. He knew them all along....only God could plan this. These precious girls must have special plans ahead--I cannot wait to be a part of this path. I can only imagine what is in their future.

Some people go thier entire lives and never feel the blessing of one--now I have 2. I cannot be more grateful......

Final Decree! Final Decree!! Doing a happy dance and thanking our wonderful God tonight. Lexie's final decree has arrived!! Now it is being translated and then will be sent to AIT and I wait for appointment. Then TRAVEL!!!!! God is good all the time!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Janie had a busy (but fun) weekend.

Friday afternoon we went to the University to have a play date with Amanda and MinJi, her mentors in the Asian Children Mentor program. We took her slide and found a big grassy area to let her run around. Then Janie found her favorite thing......stairs! She was having a blast walking up/down the stairs.

Janie's Big Girl Room

Misson accomplished! Janie's "Big Girl Room" is complete and she began sleeping in it this weekend! YAY! I have made her a more "little girl room" so that Lexie can go into the nursery when she gets home. Janie's new room is adorable and she seems to love it.

Let me just go ahead and say that yes, I know it is still a crib-not a toddler bed yet. But we are still calling it her "Big girl room". She hasn't learned to climb out of the crib yet, so I'm keeping her "contained" in there for sleeping as long as I safely can. Once she starts climbing out I will change her crib to the toddler stage.

And, I know there is still a rocking chair present:

Yep, I still rock her at night.

Yep, she still wakes up 1 time a night for a bottle.

And yep, I don't care! I love our bottle time and she needs the calories so I still have a rocking chair in there for that sweet special time each night.

Her Mimi did get her a little girl rocking chair. She still needs to sand it and paint it white--it will look so cute in here too.

As I stand in the hallway and look into my 2 beautiful rooms (the nursery and Janie's new room) I am still in awe that I will have 2 amazing girls to fill these rooms. I am so blessed and thankful. My heart is full-actually it is over-flowing!

Weekend update & GREAT news!

Hi Everyone,

Janie here....mommy isn't looking, so I decided to post a new update about me and my sister! First here is some things I did this weekend:

Went to visit my Aunt Charlene, cousin Becky (I guess that would be second cousin), and my other family member Mary. I'm not sure of the exact relation--I'm thinking it must be 3rd cousin. Also, Taylor was in town visiting and celebrating his birthday! We ate lunch at 5 guys burgers.

Here I am showing everyone my nose. I love to name off my body parts.

(So far I can point to and say my nose, eyes, ears, mouth, teeth, head, fingers, toes, belly button, elbow, and I'm working on my knee)

Everyone likes to take pictures of me--so I thought I would take some of you!

Saying "Bye Bye" to Mary

Now for the exciting news about my little sister, Lexie!!! This morning when mommy got me up she told me that Lexie's first ruling came in! Yep, you read that right-just 11 days after the court hearing! Mommy says it must be an all-time record. Of course, she must be forgetting the past 7 weeks of re-scheduled courts....but all of that is behind us! Lexie is going to be coming home soon. Mommy says we now have to wait for the final ruling and then we will get an appointment with the AIT and go get Lexie. She told me that I went thru all the same process-I don't really remember any of that, but if she says so then I guess it happened.

She also told me about the big plane we are going to go on--and she told me all the things she is bringing to entertain me for the LONG flight. Then she told me that I am going to get to see all my loved ones in Taiwan again AND I will get to see my birth mom again.

Mommy seems very emotional about that. She is glad that she will have the opportunity to ask my birth mom some more questions. I hear her praying for my birth mom a lot. Mommy always prays that my birth mom has peace and comfort in her life. I am not sure if I will get to see my birth dad again or not?

Well, I am not allowed to show you a picture of Lexie yet--but I can give you a sneak peak. Everyone says she looks alot like me!

Court Update & Moon Festival

Court for Lexie went well. The long-awaited report was done and the judge heard the case. Now, I just wait for first ruling, then final decree, then AIT appointment, then I can travel and bring my daughter home. Can't wait to unite these precious sisters!!

Last Sunday, I took Janie to a Moon Festival Celebration. We are fortunate to live near The University of Georgia and they have a program called the Asian Children Mentor Program (I've blogged about it before). They match Asian students with locally adopted Asian children. They host lots of events and the children/mentors get to spend time together.

Janie was matched with 2 sweet girls (both freshmen at UGA). Amanda who is Taiwanese/American and MinJi who is Korean/American.

Janie and her new friend Anna Grace. Anna Grace just arrived home from China about 6 months ago. Her mommy teaches at the middle school.

Janie didn't really want to make any of the crafts--but she enjoyed playing with the finished products everyone else made!

She was REALLY into the piano and loved having Amanda and MinJi help. This made her Mimi happy since she really wants Janie to play the piano when she gets older!

We look forward to spending more time with Amanda and MinJi and getting to know them better. We plan to attend as many of the scheduled events as we can and maybe even spending other times with them-maybe the park or playground. I really love this program and feel so fortunate to have Janie learn so much from these amazing students!

GREAT COURT NEWS!! I got word today that my re-scheduled court for Lexie has been set for this Thursday (Sept. 30) in the morning....so on Wednesday night our time, the judge will hopefully be FINALLY hearing Lexie's case!! Now let's hope the judge has compassion for the delays and issues a quick first ruling!! Praising God tonight! Oh, and got a few new pics today too!!

Hi Everyone,

Janie here....So last week my day sitter had a special event going on and couldn't watch me, so I got to spend the whole day with Mimi. Mommy wondered how spoiled I would be when she got home.....Mimi and I "shopped 'til we dropped". Here is what mommy found when she got home!

Yep, Mimi bought me all kinds of great things: some new clothes, some room decorations, and of course toys!! It was sooooo much fun spending the whole day with her!

My friend Harrison is hoping to have some siblings soon! Yep, his mommy and daddy are going to be adopting from Ethopia (hopefully a sibling group) and they sold these great shirts as a fundraiser for the adoption. Mommy has one too and really likes it, but she says I make a cuter model. You can read their journey HERE.

Lots of people said I look cute in this outfit. Boy, mommy comes up with some silly outfits for me!

I have a new love---BARNEY! Of course Elmo is still #1, but Barney is pretty funny too! Mommy got me some DVD's and I love to watch the songs and dance along with Barney!
Here I am just being silly at home--my favorite thing to do is pull ALL of my toys out of the toy boxes, cabinets, baskets, and spread them all over the entire house!

Court Delayed Again

Court hearing for Lexie did not happen as scheduled on Monday. The typhoon was a strong one and the government offices (and courts) were closed. The first 2 dates were rescheduled b/c the social worker did not have the report completed to give judge and now this.....will this ever happen?

I am thankful that the babies, nannies, and birth moms are all OK...That is ultimately what is most important. I am just disappointed that the hearing still has not happened. Then after it finally does I still have to wait for first ruling, final decree, AIT appointment before I can travel to bring sweet Lexie home.....sigh.

Praying that it is rescheduled quickly and not too far out-then praying the judge has compassion that this has taken so long and gives a speedy ruling.

I'm coming baby girl! Hang in there! Janie and I cannot wait to meet you!

Adoption is not an easy journey and the unknowns can be frightening, exhausting, overwhelming, and saddening. However, I would live every second all over again knowing how wonderful the outcome is!

God's plan is perfect--all of the time, not some of the time! I have always known that, but honestly during the low times of the wait-it was hard to remember that.

Now I smile as I think back to that crazy person I was for 3 years. I was the crazy waiting mommy who checked her email a thousand times a day, who obsessed with watching the clock couting the minutes to when the adoption agency closed and I wouldn't hear the phone ring anymore, who longed for Monday mornings hoping to hear something that week.

My path was set all along, I just needed to let go and walk it! When I finally did let go and turn it all over to the Lord, Janie came into my life! What a joy she is! What a blessing I have been given. I promise to always remember that! All of the time-not some of the time!

1 year ago today I got on a plane to head to Taiwan to meet my beautiful daughter Janie! Wow!! Those 3 years of waiting for her seemed to never end-but this year has flown by!!! She is the most amazing little girl. She has brought so much joy to my life and to everyone she comes into contact with. People are drawn to her. On a regular basis, strangers will approach me in stores, restaurants, etc and ask to see her up close. So many people have told me that they see her from across the room and feel pulled to her-so many people have even asked to take her picture. It is a little strange-but it doesn't seem to scare me. There is just something really special about this little girl. God has big plans for her!! And I am honored to be her mommy!

Now, by God's hand, I am waiting to get on the plane again to bring her sister home...I'm coming sweet Lexie-we love you!

By the way, I did a really great post yesterday with tons of video of Janie talking and being so silly....but I can't seem to get the videos to load-ggrrrrr. I'll keep trying!

Labor Day Weekend

Had a great Labor Day weekend. Of course I came down with a TERRIBLE cold (so I thought). Mom came over Saturday afternoon to help play with Janie while I rested. By Sunday, I was miserable and gave in and went to a local doctor....I didn't think I could wait until Tuesday to see my regular doctor. I was diagnosed with a severe sinus infection (never had one before) and given an antibiotic, cough supressent, and a steriod shot (in the rear no less)!! I am feeling so much better and SOOOOO grateful for my mom....I could not have made it thru Sunday and Monday without her!!

We didn't go to the UGA game on Saturday--but Janie still showed off her Bulldog Pride!

Feeling sad...don't know all the specific details, but apparently Lexie's court hearing was rescheduled AGAIN! So, more delays....I trust that God is in control and I know that HIS timing is always perfect, but for tonight this is how Janie and I feel about it....

Lexie's re-scheduled court hearing is set for tomorrow in Taiwan (actually it will be happening tonight while we are sleeping). Please join me in prayer that the court hearing happens as scheduled, goes smoothly, that the judge feels he/she has enough information to make a ruling, and that the ruling comes quickly! Also, please pray for Janie/Lexie's birth mother. I am certain that this will be another difficult day for her.

In the meantime, here is a sneak peak of sweet Lexie! Check out that little grin! I can't wait to get these sisters together!!

So ever since I adopted Janie, I have been asked "who keeps her during the day"? Well here is the story.....wwwwaaaaaayyyyyy back when in 2008 when I received the referral of my Vietnam princess, I began researching child care. I would love to stay home with my child(ren), but obviously being a single mommy--I must work. Luckily since I teach, I have great working hours as well as lots of holiday breaks...but, I still needed child care.

I thought about an in-home caregiver but knew I could never afford a private "nanny" and I was leary about sending my child to someone's private home unless I really knew them well.

So, I began visiting local day-care centers. I chose one and waited...then lost the Vietnam referral. After receiving Janie's referral from Taiwan, I re-visted the day care and decided on it.

Then after I got home from Taiwan a dear friend told me that her in-home provider had an opening....WHAT??? This was AMAZING news to me!! Here is why:

Janie stays with the WONDERFUL Ms. Gaye!!! I coached her daughter in cheerleading when she was in middle/high school. Her parents attend my church. I have known her for years!! She is so amazing with her little ones!! She keeps children of teachers so she works on our school schedule. Currently she keeps Janie, a precious little guy named Charlie, and 2 beautiful sisters Molly and Ivey. They are all 4 such good little friends--it's so cute!

Charlie is 2 and his mommy teaches with me at my school!

Molly is in kindergarten and Ivey in 3rd grade (so they come after school) and their mommy teaches at the middle school.

I couldn't be happier! Ms. Gaye has kept so many children over the years and I just love, love, love her! So does Janie!!! She plans to keep Lexie too!!!!

Random Sweetness!

Just some random sweet pics of a few special days recently....

A few weeks ago, Janie and I went to visit a dear friend, Mandy. We planned to have lunch, go to park, and then go meet Elmo.....yes, Elmo. He is a huge celebrity in our household!

We decided it was way toooo hot at the park, so we left an went to play indoors at

the Learning Express toy store!

Then it was time to see Elmo! Well, let's just say Janie was not too sure of this Elmo. He was much, much, much bigger than the Elmo on Sesame Street or any of her Elmo toys. When she first saw him from a distance she was excited and saying "Melmo, Melmo" but the closer we got, the bigger Elmo got and Janie wasn't so sure anymore....

The children's movie was "Up" and Janie was beyond excited about the balloons!

Janie is 18 months old today...so hard to believe! Where has the time gone? It is also so hard to believe that next month she will have been with me for 1 year!!!!! What an amazing gift God has given me in this precious child...

Court update!

Today was the scheduled court hearing for Lexie. Well, bad news and good news. First the bad news, it was rescheduled for Sept. 2 because social worker report was not complete (boo). And birth mom did not attend. I was disappointed at first to hear that because she attended Janie's court hearing. I say "at first" becasue I then was told that after Deana got back to the office the birth mom called saying she was so sorry-she had overslept and felt very bad about it. So, she came into the office and it sounds like the social worker came over and finished the report today. So, it sounds like it is done and maybe then Sept. 2 will go well. So at least some kind of progress happened today. And then I heard something that made me swell with emotion. Birth mom was able to see some updated pictures of both Janie and Lexie. She expressed how comforting it was to see them both so healthy and happy. She spent some time looking at thier similarities and differnences--so sweet. And apparently she expressed her gratitude to me for adopting both which is allowing them to be together. This brought me to tears--for so many reasons. How can I ever thank her enough--she gave my daughters life!! She gave me a precious gift in Janie and now again in Lexie. I remember for 7 long months only getting to see pictures of Janie. Not being able to hold her, kiss her, snuggle her, feel her, smell her.....and now I am blessed to have her in my life while her birth mom can now only look at pictures. This hit me pretty hard today. You know as you begin to educate yourself on adoption and the adoption triad, you learn about the loss associated with adoption. I felt that for her today. I am grateful and thankful every second that I have this precious child in my life and that I will soon have her sister as well--but I have to be honest and say my heart went out to her birthmom today in a big way. I always include her in my daily prayers...but today was a little more intense. So now, I wait for Sept. 2..... Hang on sweet Lexie---we're coming!

Dear Heavenly Father, tonight when I lay my head down to rest I will be wishing I was in Taiwan. On the other side of the world a court hearing will be going on for Janie's sister, Lexie. Lord please place your hand on the hearts of all involved and create a smooth path to unite these beautiful girls. I trust in you and will always follow your lead. Amen

I think she really missed everyone. She went 2 mornings a week in the summer so her transition wouldn't be too hard. She comes home exhausted so I know she is having Fun, Fun, Fun.

While we were in Tennessee, we also visited Coolidge Park in Chattanooga. They have a great carousel there! It was Janie's first! She loved the lights and music. She wasn't too fond of the horse that went up/down....she preferred the horse (and giraffe) that remained still....We rode it several times--it was lots of fun! I love watching Janie experience all of these "firsts". I thank God everytime we have moments like these!

Well, those of you who know me well....you know how I love my purses. Yes, I know-I have way to many of them and I admit I am somewhat obsessed with having as many as possible. Many trips to New York City have resulted in having a closet full of purses--and when I say closet full I mean it. I have not counted in a while, but I am sure I am up to 45-50 at least.

So, remember this photo from Taiwan. Here is Janie back in September 2009 at only 7 months old showing her interest in Mommy's Coach Bag......I laughed so hard back then.......

Well, her Mimi went to New York a few weeks ago and brought Janie back her very own first purse from New York....Check it out!!! How cute is this........

Seriously, Is God perfect or what! He created this amazing child to be my daughter. I cannot imagine life without her. What a precious gift she is! She makes me smile all day long-I think I probably even smile in my sleep just dreaming about her.

On another note: I got some new pictures and a progress report on Lexie. The pictures are great!! And the personality report made me LAUGH so hard. Lexie is the exact opposite of Janie. It states that Lexie is calm, likes quiet, timid, and peaceful. How sweet is that!!

I remember the updates on Janie....every email mentioned her temper and how fiesty she is. These girls will give each other balance. They will complete each other and they will both definetly complete me! I cannot wait!

Cheerleaders went swimming today after camp....Janie joined them and had a great time! She loves the water!

Getting excited about leaving tomorrow for Tennessee to hang out with Harrison and his family/friends. They have not seen each other since September 2009 in Taiwan. Look how little they both were then. Can't wait!!!

First Carnival

So there is a carnival in the mall parking lot right now. Yes, I know those can be a little scary--but it every kid has to go, right!?! So, this didn't turn out like I had planned--but here is how Janie's first carnival experience went down:

I called and found out they are open from 4:00-10:00. I know it is much more fun at night--but Janie is usually asleep by 7:30 or 8:00...and it is still day-light. I was determined to make this happen-who wants to go to a carnival at 4:00-not me!!

So, I planned to take her last night. I manipulated her naps so that she would be awake and excited to leave the house around 7:30. I hoped to get there and be ready to have fun by 8:00 and it wouldn't be sunny or hot and the lights would be brighter for her to enjoy!

I asked Debra to go with us....Debra teaches with me in my class and she LOVES Janie...she has been with me every step of our journey.

So we get there and I am beyond excited. The smell of funnel cakes and cotton candy fills the air-and carnival music is playing! I am ready to have some FUN, FUN, FUN!

Well, I know Janie is tiny but I guess I just don't see her as small. (I mean she runs all around my house, climbs furniture, and is wild!)

So I marched right up to the ticket booth and bought $20 worth of tickets then went to get in line for the first "baby" ride I saw. To my surprise and shock I was told she was too small...what?

So, on to the next line...same thing "too small"....this actually went on for 5 rides before I realized that guess what....Janie is too small!

It was then that it hit me, she is small (all 17 pounds of her). I was beyond bummed! I begged and begged them to let her ride the train-they said OK. Then I begged them to let her ride the balloons-they said OK. None of the other "baby rides" would give in to my begging! On a positive note: she did have fun watching all the lights and other kids. Maybe next summer she will be able to do more!

So now I have all these tickets and can't use them. Oh well, I'm sure I can find someone to use them!

So a very long time ago (before I adopted Janie) I was on a trip in the mountains. At a neat store, I found this amazing high chair. When I saw it, I had to have it. I knew that one day I would have a child to use it. For a long time it sat in my dining room with a doll in it. Then when Janie became old enough for a high chair I tried it with her, but she was too little and I was afraid she would slip thru...but now she can use it! It is so well constructed of solid wood and built by the Amish---I absolutely love it--so does Janie.

Of course right now Janie just loves playing with the seat-belt :):)

Oh and by the way, check out that hair! Looks like it is time for another trim. Her hair grows so fast! It is so beautiful!

17 months today!

Yep, my girl is 17 months old today.....She has for sure left her "baby stage" and a full toddler--a sily little girl with a mind of her own!! Here is a little about her and some of what she is doing now:

Not sure of exact weight--my "official" weight on a home scale read 17 lbs 2 oz.
Still small but fiesty. Wears a size 3 shoe--sometimes can wear a 4
Wears size 6-9 month clothes (dresses and rompers) anything with a waist will fall off unless it is a 3 month size.
Goes to sleep around 7:30-8:00 and gets up b/w 6:45-7:30
Takes usually 2 naps a day
Eats everything I put in front of her
Loves fruit (all fruit too-no real favorite)
Not sure her length-she is tall-just very thin
Walking (and often running) everywhere, everywhere, everywhere
Gets into everything quicker than anything I have ever seen!
Can empty a drawer in about 2 seconds flat!
Can destroy an entire house in about 3 seconds flat!! :):):)
Loves to carry her toys around the house
Is beginning to SQUEAL with delight...and it is LOUD and beyond adorable
Says about 15-20 words consistently and with meaning--otherwise just tons of baby jabber
Has 6 teeth and a 7th coming thru rigth now
Loves dogs and always says "Dog" whichs sounds more like "duoog" when she sees one in person or on tv
Calls most animals Dogs
Tries to whistle for dogs but it is more like a blow-but very cute
Loves babies and will immediately point at and run to any stroller she sees in a store saying "baby"
If she hears a baby cry she will often begin to cry too (I call it the sympathy cry)
Loves other kids. If she sees kids she immediately wants to do what they are doing
Is beginning to get frightened by storms. When it thunders she looks at me and gets this pitiful look and comes to grab me.
Is starting to throw little "mini tantrums". When she is tired and doesn't get her way she will drop to the floor and roll around to her stomach and often kick. Where do kids learn this?? I swear I have never done it in front of her!! It must be instinct in toddlers. Hmmm-we are not liking this! When at home I just ignore and it really has only lasted about 10 seconds or so, then I re-direct her to something else. In public, I just re-direct her immediately. Hopefully this doesn't progress to something more intense....
Loves to have books read to her, although she usually won't sit still for the entire book-just a few pages
Very active-doesn't sit and play....plays standing up and moving constantly
Beginning to "pretend" play. Her favorite is to pretend "cooking"
LOVES, LOVES, LOVES Elmo or should I say "Melmo"
Gives all her stuffed animals and dolls kisses and emphasis a smacking sound
Won't kiss me that often. She thinks its funny. I say Give mommy a kiss and she will laugh or squeal and turn her head.
Yesterday when Sesame Street was on she ran up to the tv to kiss Elmo-too funny
Loves water. Loves the pool, swimming-any kind of water
Calls all water "pool". Puddles, ponds, lakes, ocean, etc
Loves balloons!
Better at riding in carseat-but needs breaks on long trips (don't we all)
Is infatuated with music--any kind. If she hears music she will stop what she is doing to listen but then usually breaks out into a dance
Has several different dances. Sometimes will just tap her foot!
Loves her gymnastics class and loves to stand up, throw hands up in the air and say "ta-da"
Loves her Mimi and her Gramps. Looks at pictures of Mimi and calls her name when she is not around. Will laugh, smile, squeal for gramps! Loves to play with him-especially while eating!
Much more that I can't think of right this second

And the biggest development and thing that scares mommy the most (and keeps mommy on her toes)..........

SHE IS A CLIMBER!!

This girl loves to climb and wants to be as high as possible. She will climb on the couch and run from end to end laughing--of course I am holding my breath and ready to catch! She tries to climb the baby gates. She tries to climb bleachers and stairs (thankfully my house is 1 level). She will get to the top and say "ta-da"

Her newest is climbing onto the dining room table. So dangerous and scaring mommy! I am just about to take the chairs away for a while. Here is a picture of my little girl on the chair then on the table. I always know she is climbing when she gets too quiet! Don't worry....I was right there ready to catch.

August 12 is the date for court! YAY! On this day, Lexie's adoption case will be presented to a judge in Taiwan! Praising God for this wonderful news! One more step closer to bringing my daughter home and uniting her with her sister! Janie and I are so excited!!!

Callaway (Part 3) Independence Day!!!

Our last full day at Callaway-July 4th! Janie's first Indpendence Day in America!! What a busy, busy day it was!

We started out by going to the beach for our red, white, and blue pancake breakfast. Janie was all dressed in her sweet dress and ready to go!

Here is some video of her showing off her squeaky shoes again. We were trying to get her to "spin" but she was more interested in her shoes and juice! Usually when I say "spin" she will turn around in circles--she thinks it is so much fun!

We had a great weekend! I am so amazed that I finally have my little girl here to celebrate these wonderful moments! I cannot wait to have both my girls together next year! I am so blessed and thankful each day that God has given me such a precious gift! I hope each of you had a wonderful holiday weekend.

Part 2: 4th of July Weekend at Callaway

Part 2 of our weekend-Saturday at Callaway Gardens

So we woke up Saturday morning and decided to order room service! Janie's first room service (well, we had room service in Taiwan-but she was not on solid food yet).

We had a 3-egg omlete, potatoes, and french toast (yummy). We had to put her in the stroller to eat..she was so excited she wouldn't sit still-kept running around the room-especially towards the bathroom. **Side note about the bathroom: We had to keep that door shut, she kept playing in the garbage and toilet! Whenever one of us would head to the bathroom she would RUN down the hallway, arms in the air, and squealing/laughing to try to get there first and sneak thru the door!! Then while you were in the bathroom you could hear her knocking on the door saying "mommy, mommy" or "mimi, mimi". Silly girl!

Then it was time to get ready for the beach!! Janie was all set in her swimmer and ready to go!

Here she is heading for the water and playing in the sand. She had a blast! She would play for a while, then head for the water, then go back to playing! Too cute. The only time she got upset was when we walked a little further down the beach and she saw the older kids playing area in the water...she REALLY wanted to go to the water playground and play on the big inflatable water area--but you had to be 5 years old. She could see it, and wanted to go into the water towards it. When mommy turned her around to head back to the other side of the beach-she showed her Janie temper!! She wanted to do what all the big kids do! She is growing up too fast!

After the beach, we headed back to the room for a much needed shower/nap. Then we headed over to our beach barbeque and then went back to the gardens. We went to the butterfly center and the discovery center but they had both already closed so we took some nice walks and got some pretty outdoor pictures.

Then we headed back to the beach for some fun music and ice-cream. Janie loved the music but I had to keep her away from the sand b/c she then thought she was going swimming again and would head straight for the water! Then when I steered her away from it, she got really upset-girl loves to swim!!!
After the music it was time to head back to the hotel for the night. Big day tomorrow and we need our rest!

4th of July Weekend at Callaway (Part 1)

We spent the 4th of July weekend at Callaway Gardens. Janie LOVED every second of it. Of course I took about a million pictures and video and have way to many to choose from to put on her to show our weekend! In most of the pictures I couldn't capture her smiles-she was so curious about everything and just taking it all in--and running around everywhere! She wanted to touch and explore everything! I was never quick enough with the camera to catch the squeals and smiles! But, with so many pictures I am going to do it in 3 parts.....Here is part 1, Friday!

We arrived on Friday afternoon and immediately began to explore the gardens and the beach area. We took Janie to the beach so she could feel the sand on her feet for the very first time! She went crazy when she saw it! We took her pink car since she enjoys it so much more than a stroller. As soon as she saw the lake and sand she let out the biggest squeal I have ever heard come out of her! She was beyond excited. And she kept pointing and saying "pool, pool". In fact, the entire weekend, every pool, beach, lake, pond was a "pool." In fact, every water fountain was even a "pool".

Then we went to town to buy some snacks for the room. We found a great children's boutique and had to stop in. Janie got some Squeaky shoes. I had heard about these and wanted some--Janie loves them. She was so funny when she took her first step--she turned around to look behind her to see what made that noise. Once she discovered it was her feet, she began stomping!!

After a great seafood buffet dinner (yummy) we went back to the beach area to see the Florida State Univ. acrobatic circus. She liked it for a while. She was wearing her squeaky shoes and wanted to walk around showing them off! After about 45 minutes though she was bored so we didn't stay the entire time.

Then it was off to the hotel room to get ready for bed. Janie (and mommy) needed rest so we can be ready to swim tomorrow!!!

JANIE IS A BIG SISTER!!!

Yep, you read that correct...Janie is a big sister! Most of my friends and family already know this-but here it is for the blogging world! Alexa Claire Day (Lexie) is waiting for us in Taiwan!

Here are the details: (Warning: it's long-so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the story)

Back on Feb. 4 my cell phone rang and it was the ring tone for my adoption agency. I thought to myself, I wonder what they need-they must need something for a post-placement report for Janie. Keep in mind, my caseworker was in Taiwan at the time so I really wasn't sure why they were calling. And, Janie has only been home 5 months so I was still doing post-adoption paperwork.

I answered the phone and Hollen (who told me about Janie's birth and about my final court decree-all because all these things seem to happen while my caseworker is in Taiwan) asked me if I was sitting down. She then goes on to tell me that Janie's birth mom went to the hospital in Taiwan. (Ok...let me just say right then and there my heart sank. I immediately thought she was in dispair and wanting the baby back...of course, I know that is impossible. Janie's adoption is final and complete, she is a US citizen, and all is well-but that was my first initial reaction).

Then she completed her sentence and I couldn't believe my ears. She told me that Janie's birth mom had just given birth to another baby girl and told the hospital staff that she could not keep the baby. The hospital social worker recongnized the name and contacted my agency's Taiwan staff.

My head began to spin!! What? Janie has a sister alone in a hospital in Taiwan? Janie was not even a year old yet. We were in the process of planning her 1 year party? What does this mean? Janie has a sister? I am also planning Janie's big baptism celebration. Janie is not even 1 yet-how can this be? Oh my...the thoughts were pouring from my brain. Honestly, I only heard about half of what Hollen was saying.

Fast forward a few days....the agency got all of the info, Taiwan staff met with birth mom and she wants the baby to go to a loving home. Taiwan staff asked her if she would want the baby to be with her sister in America. Birth mom said yes. So, I had a HUGE decision to make!!!

And, can you believe I knew all of this at Janie's birthday and baptism---when sooooo many friends/family were around? It was beyond hard to keep quiet about it. But, it was a private decision and those days were about Janie--I didn't want the focus to be taken away from her--but it was sooooo hard not to shout it to everyone!!

Of course my heart says YES, YES, YES. But, my brain says-slow down and make sure I can handle this. Let's see here are what I consider my biggest challenges:

1. Being single and raising 2 baby girls (less than 1 year apart in age)

2. Financially-not just the adoption expenses, but the day-to-day life for many years to come (on a teacher salary)

That's it--those are the only 2 things that could possibly prevent this. Yes, I know they are 2 very serious things-but I spent several weeks in deep prayer and lots of discussion about it. My heart knew what I wanted but I had to make sure this was the right thing for the baby and for Janie. I knew the baby would not be left alone. I knew there were other families in the Taiwan program waiting for thier child--so that was hard to accept. I didn't want to feel like I was "taking" someone else's baby. I know that sounds crazy and I really can't explain it in words very well..it's just a feeling. I remember when I was in the Vietnam program waiting for my referral and I would read of other's joys in seeing thier baby's face, travel, etc while I still waited. In my heart, I knew that God had chosen that child for them but if you have EVER waited out an adoption process-you know what I mean--it is hard to not feel some envy. Happiness for the family of course, but deep down, a little jealous. I hate to admit that-but I'm trying to be honest.

I also know that blood is not thicker than water. It does not take DNA to make a child yours, or a sibling. Becoming a family member thru adoption is just that-creating a family...but having said that--how amazing that they are bio sisters! Yes, full bio sisters (same birth mom and birth father).

The conclusion-how can I not bring these girls together?!?! How can I look at Janie everyday and know she has a sister not with her?? How can I leave this child without her family? Janie and I are her family-she needs to be with us!

I knew I always wanted 2 children...and I knew I wanted them close in age (under 3-4 years apart). My mom and I talked about this all the time. Guess I didn't realize that God really does listen to our prayers doesn't He? Or, maybe it is something different.....I believe with every inch of my being that God KNEW and PLANNED this path from the beginning. He knew these sisters would be together and he put it in my heart to desire 2 children close in age--that way, when the day really came-my heart would already be prepared. Amazing isn't it!

Back to the story: I made my decision! I am adopting Janie's sister! I am mentally/emotionally ready and the process is in place. I had to re-do all paperwork-new adoption, new paperwork. Homestudy, USCIS approval, dossier, EVERYTHING. That took a little while since I was not prepared at all-wasn't even thinking about doing any of that. And, I was in the end of the school year, special olympic season, new cheerleading season beginning (my busiest time paperwork wise). Not to mention raising a baby!!!! So, it took a little longer than expected....but, the paperwork is done and on it's way to Taiwan!

Now, I just wait for a court date! I am applying for several grants and praying I get some financial assistance-that would be great! Janie is trying to learn to say Lexie-so far she just says the ending sound "zi" which is cute!

I have received several pictures and video of Lexie. She is beyond beautiful and looks JUST like Janie (except for one thing-I'll get to that in a minute). She was a preemie also so started out pretty tiny but growing and happy/healthy. She has a head full of hair-just like Janie. She is in the same home as Janie was and being cared for by the same people--so I KNOW she is in good hands.

Now for the one difference--she is a HUGE baby compared to Janie. Now, let me clarify: Lexie was a preemie and is small compared to other babies-but compared to Janie she is big. Lexie is going to be the younger sister-not the little sister. Last update she was 4 months and already at 11 pounds 9 ounces and at the same time Janie was going for her 15 month check up and weighed in at 15 pounds 13 ounces! Yep, Janie is still tiny-but fiesty and developmentally on track-just tiny! Looks like Janie may get the hand-me-downs!!

So there you go! That's my big news! I am so thankful that God has granted me such wonderful blessings. What an amazing story! I remember those long days/months/years of waiting for my baby and now I have 2! I am honored and blessed that God has chosen this path for me and my girls!

Most have been beyond supportive and so excited-but as you can imagine, I have heard some unusual and often rude comments too (adoptive parents-you know what I mean).

Just like with Janie-I won't be posting any pictures of Lexie until she is officially mine and in my arms in Taiwan. However, privately I can email it to you for you to see if you are interested....she is a mini Janie!

Someone told me in a few years when they become teenagers, I will need to get some guard dogs and an electric fence to keep the teenage boys away!!

Please keep us all in your prayers...and please lift up the girls' birth mom in prayer. I think about her often.

My Dancing Queen!

Janie has discovered dance! She has always loved music and bounced along or tapped her foot. But now she is fully dancing!

She has 5 main dances:

1. The bounce! Where she just bounces up and down

2. The twist! She loves to twist with arms in the air

3. The spin! She will spin around in circles

4. The head bop! She bops her head up/down and forward/backwards. (I also call it the chicken dance)

5. The foot tap! She will just stop playing and tap her foot. Too funny. She used to do this when she was crawling too. If she heard music, she would stop crawling and tap her left foot on the ground.

I have been trying to capture some of this dancing on video. I got a little today-not much-but I'll keep trying to get more.

16 months!

Yep, Janie is 16 months old today! How did that happen? She has become such a little toddler. My baby is gone. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of her when I'm rocking her to sleep or giving her a bottle--but basically, she is a toddler with a mind of her own now! Sometimes I still can't believe that she is in my life but yet I feel like I have known her forever. I guess God placed her in my heart years ago!

Here is what she is up to these days:

Mobility: Let's just say she keeps me VERY busy. She walks-ummm correction-she runs everywhere! She is fast and takes off!! She is also a climber! She loves to see how high she can get. That keeps me busy! She loves her gymnastics class. It is 45 minutes a week of pure energy and fun! She is too cute working on her forward roll at home. If I say to do it, she gets in position by putting her hands on ground and tucking her head!

Language: She talks all the time at home and in the car but the minute we get somewhere she doesn't speak at all...she just runs, plays, and observes! Her favorite words these days are: mommy (sometimes mama), dog, Bailey (my dog's name), baby, cheese, Patches (the dog where she stays while I'm at work), ball, balloon (boon), bag (she knows her snacks are in there), Mimi, hello (says like howo), bye-bye, night-night, and tons of others that I can't remember right now. I am trying to get her to say Gramps but so far she just says "ppsss".

Food: She eats EVERYTHING but her favorite is still cheese and anything with cheese in it or on it! But lately she doesn't want me to feed her at all. She is great with finger foods but spoon not so much....and she wants to use it soooo bad. Guess it's time to start eating with a diaper on and just clean up the messiness! Should be lots of fun!

Playing: She is beginning to do creative/pretend play now. It is too cute. She loves to pretend to cook, stir, and eat. Tonight I noticed her "feeding" her baby doll. She also LOVES books, phones, and Elmo!!

Personality: Well, she is for sure my child. She is stubborn, fiesty, and has a mind of her own! She lets you know right away when she wants something! She is a GREAT baby/toddler. So happy and loves to people watch--but when she is done with something or she wants something else--watch out! She is a girl with attitude and not afraid to use it--of course she usually does it with a smile. She uses her cuteness on anyone that will fall for it!

Strawberry Picking!

Janie is a part of the Asian Children Mentor Program (ACMP) at the University of Georgia. It is a great program that matches Asian college students with adopted children in the Athens area. They help teach our kids about Asian culture/traditions and they host lots of fun events for all of us to get together and enjoy each other's company. Today's event was Strawberry picking!!

Janie enjoyed it! Let's just say, she really enjoyed eating the strawberries more than picking them. Mommy and Janie were covered in sticky red juice by the end!!!

At first Janie only wanted to carry her snacks around and look at everything...

Then she realized what we were looking for-those pretty red strawberries!

So I just enrolled Janie in her first gymnastic class. It is for children "walking to age 3". She loved, loved, loved when I took her there today to sign her up. Her first class is tomorrow!! I'll let you know when she starts doing her back-handsprings and tucks!!!

Also, at our park, they had the most beautiful field of flowers. I had a vision of Janie in the middle looking up with a beautiful smile--so I plopped her down right in the middle and pulled out the camera. Well, apparently she thought the flowers were pretty too because she would not look at the camera at all. I tried everything---silly noises, fake sneezes, loud sounds, etc....she just kept playing with the flowers.....still pretty pictures though!

Memorial Day

Today is Memorial Day. Janie and I are going to a cook-out later this afternoon with some great friends. Rain is in the forecast but we are hoping it will hold off. Through all the cook-outs, picnics, parties, and pool openings-let us remember the reason for today......to honor those in service who have given their lives, are currently serving, and those who have given us past service. I count my grandfather (Pop) among those.

These wonderful men and women have given us the most precious gift of FREEDOM and I am forever grateful! Freedom of religion, speech, to be who I am, even the freedom to adopt my precious child. We have so many riches because of these brave individuals--let us never forget that!

A Birthday Party!

Hi Everyone,

Janie here! Mommy hasn't posted any fun updates in a while-so I will do it for her :):)

So my friend Charlie turned 2 last Sunday (me, Charlie, Molly, and Ivey are all tbe best of friends...we stay together each day while our mommies are at work. All of our mommies are teachers and we all stay with Ms. Gaye during the day). Charlie's birthday party was at a place called Pump It Up. Mommy kept telling me how much fun I was going to have jumping on all the bouncy things. She was right! Funny thing is, I was the smallest guest there but I didn't know it. I kept trying to do EVERYTHING all the other kids do. Mommy says it's because I stay with kids a little older than me everyday. I don't realize that I am small. I am fiesty and want to do everything all the other kids are doing! Check out my pictures and videos below.

When I had Janie's 1-year photo shoot a while back, it was soooo much fun! What a wonderful photographer (Stylized Portraiture in Athens-check them out HERE). Each day I thank God for the blessings in my life, especially Janie! I cannot even express my love for this amazing child that He has given me. Today was somewhat of a tough day and my precious daughter always makes everything better! I am so happy to have such positivity in my life, along with the most loving family and supportive friends. God has blessed me and I am truely thankful.

I pray for the waiting families, I pray for the orphans of the world hoping for thier forever family to find them, but mostly today I pray for those who go thru life without happiness.

15 months today!

Yep, my sweet girls is 15 months old today! How did that happen? My baby is now a toddler! Seriously, when did this happen! She is just adorable and doing sooooo great. Other than her small size (or should I say tiny size) you would never know she was a 30 week preemie! She has hit all the developmental milestones of a 15 month old-most before 15 months! You go, girl!

And she is FIESTY and has a temper that she sometimes like to show! Hmmm, that may prove to be a challenge in the future-it's so hard not to smile and laugh when this tiny body gets so mad!!

I guess God knew she was going to be small, so he gave her the spunk she would need to not be pushed around by bigger people.

I'll try to post some new pics tonight after she goes to bed.

Janie LOVES Bailey! She calls her "Bai" but has just started to try to get the "ley" sound at the end! She loves to look out the window and call for her! Sometimes Bailey will come up to the window and Janie LOVES it--but I've not caught that on video yet. Here is Janie calling Bailey! (And if you listen really close right at the very beginning you can hear her say "dog".)

Janie also has discovered Elmo! She just loves him and she calls him "Melmo". It is so cute, sometimes she even drags it out "Meeeelmo" with a cute little southern accent.

Now to her new favorite game! She started this about a week ago. She does it ALL the time and I have been trying everything to catch it on video. The video isn't great, but you get the idea. She "hides" between the green chair and the wall and waits there while I say "Where's Janie, I can't find her". Sometimes she stays back there for a pretty long time giggling. Then she loves to pop out and have me say "There she is" or "Peek-a-boo". Usually she laughs hysterically when she "surprises" me! She thinks it is so funny that she has "hidden" from mommy!

In the video, she sees the camera-so all you get is a smile as she is walking to the camera. Do they make invisble cameras?? Everytime she sees it, she stops what she is doing and I can't always capture it!!! Still funny though! Enjoy!

Funny Girl and Relay for Life!

Janie is still a silly girl these days! I swear she changes everyday! It is such a joy to watch her discover the world and learn new things! This amazing little person is an incredible blessing from God. I thank Him everyday for her.

The school where I teach (Oconee County High School) hosts Oconee's Relay for Life each year. Oconee is a small community (but growing everyday) and most everyone knows (and loves) Janie. Each year the Relay for Life attracts TONS of people and lots of money is raised for cancer research. Almost everyone is affected by cancer in some way. So many of us have had loved ones battle this illness and many loved ones have lost the fight. Over the years, I have dreamed of bringing my little girl to this important event--and this year it happened. Janie's first Relay for Life.

It was very crowded and Janie loved every second of it. We had to go home first though and take a nap so she could handle at least a few hours. She did great....we got there around 8:00 (after napping from 5:00-7:00 and then dinner). She lasted until around 10:00pm!!! Late night for her!! I didn't get many pictures because we were just so busy doing everything we could and playing with all the other kids. We did a few laps (in Janie's favorite car of course) and then just hung around the OCHS tent!

So life is always so much fun with Janie. What a sweet, sweet baby (or should I say toddler now). Such a joy! Here are just some random pics of her going about her daily activities! She is changing so much each day! I can't believe how much she learns and changes each day!

She is walking everywhere now--very little crawling now! And she is into EVERYTHING! Everything is new and fun to explore (keeps mommy on her toes)!!

Lots of babbling and she has about 10-12 words she uses consistently. The funniest is Bai.....Explaination: My dog is named Bailey and Janie calls her "Bai" (she leaves off the "ley" sound. Now, any animal is Bai. She sees any dog, cat, horse, cow, goat, anything and she points and says "Bai". It's too cute!!

My 14 month old

So today Janie is 14 months old--how did that happen? Everyone always says to enjoy every second with your children b/c the time flies by. Boy are they right.

Janie was placed in my arms on the day she turned 7 months. Tomorrow she will be 14 months and 1 day which means that she will officially have been with me 1 day longer than not. That makes me smile! I cannot imagine life without her. She is such a perfect fit! God created her to be my daughter. I am so thankful that He knew my journey to her before I could ever imagine it. What a blessing!

Oh and she is walking like crazy now! She rarely crawls anymore unless she is tired or falls down. When she falls she usually just gets back up and keeps going...but in the evenings when she is tired and falls, she will just crawl to wherever she was headed.

Yesterday I noticed she began picking up things (toys, remotes, phones, anything) and carrying things around while she walks--all with a BIG PROUD smile on her face! Too cute!

Spring Break Goal: WALKING!

OK...So a few weeks ago, Janie starting walking on her own. Her personal best was 6 steps but then she just decided to stop. She showed no interest in walking at all for about a week and half. Then all of a sudden this past week--she has taken off again!!! She has pretty much mastered walking around the living room going from one piece of furniture to another so we decided to give it a try at the park (in wide-open spaces).

The weather has been wonderful this week, mommy is on spring break from teaching, so we spent lots of time at the park. Janie loves to swing, watch the big kids, play in the tree bark on the ground, and of course WALK.

Here are some pictures from the park this week and video of her longest walk yet--she had great motivation--she was walking to her MiMi!!!

I think it is so funny how she walks with her arms held above her head!

EASTER WEEKEND!!

Hi Everyone!

Janie here....let me tell you all about my Easter Weekend! My very first Easter I was only about 2 months old and still in Taiwan celebrating this wonderful day with my Taiwan care-givers and loved ones. This Easter, I am home and celebrating with mommy, Mimi, Gramps, and lots of other family and friends.....

Mommy took over 150 pictures this past weekend, so I had a hard time choosing which ones to put on here-hope you like the ones I chose. Here is something funny though---in all of those 150 or so pictures, guess what? Mommy didn't take a single picture of me in my pretty white/pink Easter dress!! How funny is that. She says we are going to put it back on and take a few pictures another day!!

But, I do have lots of pictures in my pretty green dress that my friend Martha gave me! I saved it for this weekend!

On Saturday morning, we went to the church for the children's Easter Celebration!

Waiting to go out for this thing mommy keeps calling an Easter Egg Hunt. Not sure exactly what she is talking about. She says I will find out b/c I have 3 of them this weekend! Last weekend we went to the local Easter Celebration at the park but it was windy and cold so we only did the little booths and activities (and met the Easter Bunny) but we didn't stay for the egg hunt-we left early. So, now I am ready to find out what this is all about!

Got my basket and I'm ready. Mommy keeps telling me to put these eggs in my basket but I like to bang them together instead!! By the way, I don't really like sitting on this prickly grass in my dress...it feels funny on my legs!

Later on Saturday evening, I went over to the Harrison's (my God Family) for dinner and fun times! I love Tricia, Joe, Abbey, and Jay! They always make me laugh! They brought up Abbey and Jay's old slide and it was sooo much fun! They even let me take it home with me!!

Jay came riding up in the convertible and I was very interested! Mommy told Jay that I love the wind so he took me riding around in this silly car with no top!! Don't worry, Mommy was very safe--we only went in the neighborhood and went very slow!

The Easter Bunny hid some eggs at the Harrison's house for me to find! I think maybe I am getting the hang of this now....but I still don't like the grass poking my legs!

On Sunday morning, I woke up to find this on my toy box in the living room. Mommy said the Easter Bunny came! Oooh, in my bag were some great books and in the basket was some more books, Peeps, a funny flower, and my very own pink computer!!

I think I kind of like the Easter Bunny!

After opening my basket and playing for a while, I ate breakfast and headed to church in my new white dress....of course, no pictures! But then after church we drove all the way up to Cartersville to visit family. It was a long ride (over 2 hours) but I slept most of the way.

When we got there, we had yummy food and got to see so many family members. Then we had ANOTHER egg hunt. I did much better this time. I knew what to do and I had pants on so I didn't mind the grass so much!!!

Walking & Easter Bunny

This weekend we went to a local Easter Celebration. It was windy and cold--but Janie met the Easter Bunny!

And, she has been trying soooo hard to walk-she usually just takes 1 step then drops to crawl. On Saturday she took almost 4 steps before squatting to crawl...see video below! It won't be long and she will be on the move-then my life will totally change :):)

Also, sweet girl has been trying sooo hard to walk. She takes 1 step and then drops to crawl.....but today she took almost 4 steps!!! I was lucky to catch it on video--I'll post later when I have a little more time! We went to the local Easter Celebration today--played games, met the Easter Bunny, watched pony rides, etc. It was cold and windy but lots of fun..I'll post pictures soon.

Oh, by the way....I finally saw "The Blind Side" yesterday! I rented it, never had a chance to see it in theater.....I LOVED IT!! I loved it for so many reasons! It is now one of my favorite movies!!

Fun at the Park!

This past weekend I loaded up a carload of Janie's gear and headed off to MiMi and Gramps!

Usually MiMi comes to visit Janie and me at least 1 day each weekend--but this weekend we decided to spend it at thier house. MiMi needed her sweet Janie this weekend--and boy did she deliver! Janie was GREAT the entire weekend--she was her usual sweet, silly, happy, joyful self and I know MiMi and Gramps enjoyed spending the weekend with thier grandchild!

The weather was sooooo nice on Saturday that we went to the park. Here are a few pictures!

Life is so full of happiness and joy around here that March 12 came and went and I didn't even notice. March 12, 2008 was the day I received the referral of my Vietnamese daughter. As you know a few months later I lost the referral and then Sept. 1 the MOU expired and no more Vietnam referrals to the USA. Several dates with that failed adoption make me a little sad: March 12, the referral....June 24, losing the referral, and of course Sept. 22, her birthday. I often think about that precious little girl. I wonder if she is OK? I pray for her often. Although I never met her, held her, or heard her voice--I do consider her my daughter. I still talk about her occassionally and I call her Pheonix (that was going to be her middle name-it was the English translation of her Vietnamese name).

This year, March 12 came and I honestly didn't realize it. I feel bad for missing that date, but I am thankful that my life is so full right now that I didn't dwell on the loss.

I still have her picture in my living room and always plan to! Please join me in prayer that she is feeling God's love each day!

13 months old and 6 months home!

It is so hard to believe that Janie is 13 months old today--and that she has been home 6 months! Sometimes it still feels so unreal--all the months (really years) of waiting and praying for her and I often have to remind myself that she really is here--my daughter is home! Then other days it seems like she has always been here and always been a part of my life. It's really hard to remember life without her.

One thing I do know: She is the absolute light of my life. She is 100% pure joy and I thank God everyday for allowing me to be her mommy!!

Here are some random pics. You will notice in many she is pointing....that is her new favorite thing to do. She points at everything, especially when she wants something! She lets you know!!

She is trying SO HARD to walk. It seems to be her main goal in life right now! She can stand for a few seconds but then bends down when she realizes what she is doing!! She loves to push her toys all over the house--she walks so fast behind them. She used to just "keep up" with them, but now she seems to be more in control of them.

She babbles all the time but has a few consitent words: mama, baby, bye bye, dog, and ball. Her favorite word is balloon-she usually says it "boon" but sometimes she gets that "l" sound in there too!!

Janie turned 1 on Feb. 14 and a few days before that we went to a wonderful photographer (Stylized Portraiture) for a custom photo shoot! We met with them this past weekend to order some of the prints! They were all so WONDERFUL! It was sooo hard to choose! And they were too sweet--they already had a beautiful 16x20 printed for me that they gave me for free! They have a great program titled Celebrate Adoption! I love them!!
